Tempering Low-Iron Glass: Essential Guidelines

Low-iron glass is highly regarded for its remarkable clarity and high light transmission, making it ideal for applications like aquariums, display cases, and glazed facades. This type of glass is produced with minimal iron content, eliminating the greenish-blue tint often seen in thicker standard glass.

When tempering low-iron glass, specific adjustments are necessary to accommodate its unique properties. First, it requires a longer heating time compared to normal float glass. This extended heating is crucial because low-iron glass has higher transparency and lower radiant heat absorption, necessitating more time to reach the optimal tempering temperature.

In addition to longer heating, a higher cooling pressure is essential. The lower heat radiation of low-iron glass means that it cannot cool as quickly as standard glass, so increased pressure helps ensure that the glass retains its integrity and strength.
